Course Title:

Industrial Radiographer Training

Course duration:

5 days

Price:

$1995

Course Summary:

This 40-hour class is intended to meet State and Federal regulatory requirements for initial training to practice radiography with radioactive materials or x-ray machines. Practical classroom training will be provided by experienced career professional health physicists certified by the American Board of Health Physics and radiation safety professionals certified by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing, Inc. (ASNT). An examination will be given at the end of the course as a Practice Test to help attendees prepare for the ASNT certification examination for Industrial Radiography Radiation Safety Personnel (IRRSP).

Training requirements

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Training specifies training requirements for industrial radiography employing radioactive materials in 10 CFR 34.43. Suggested State Regulations, Sec. E.17, also give training requirements for both radioactive material and x-ray radiography. Training requirements for certification of industrial radiographers have been established by the American Society for Nondestructive Testing in ASNT Practice No. ASNT-CP-IRRSP-1A. These regulations indicate that a licensee or registrant may not permit any individual to act as a radiographer until that individual has received:

  • at least 40 hours of training (see topics in agenda below),
  • at least two months (320 hours) of hands-on experience with radioactive material radiography under the supervision of a radiographer, and/or
  • one month (160 hours) of active participation in the performance of industrial radiography using radiation machines, and is
  • certified through a radiographer certification program.

This course will meet the requirement for 40 hours of training. This course will draw upon over 100 years of practical experience of the faculty who are also professional radiation safety instructors. This course is not intended to be about theory or math, however, we will provide sufficient understanding of radiation theory and math to assure a minimum level of comfort in conducting radiographic operations. Our course will focus on practical things you need to know to pass the ASNT examination, work safely as a radiographer, and meet regulatory requirements.
