Work Description

In support of its Natural Resource Damage Assessment (NRDA) for the British Petroleum (BP) Deep Water Horizon oil spill, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) relied on Dade Moeller, an NV5 Company,* to:

  • Operate sample intake and logistical centers serving the full 1,600 miles of Gulf coastline
  • Mobilize more than 200 specialized personnel
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of more than 150,000 environmental samples
  • Conduct sample and data intakes from all field sampling and observation teams operated or supported by NOAA
  • Perform primary and secondary quality assurance reviews of all sample intake data
  • Accession samples on-site, including aboard NOAA vessels, ensuring complete, accurate, and consistent chain of custody
  • Pack and ship samples, ensuring accurate, timely delivery to laboratories without compromising chain of custody
  • Provide long-term storage for samples and documents subject to non-disposition requirements
  • Procure, verify, distribute, and administer technical supplies and equipment to support the sampling process
  • Train sampling technicians and data managers for near-shore and off-shore sampling teams
