NV5 health physicists Heather Healy and Brett Rosenberg volunteered at a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) outreach event where high school students had the opportunity to interact in half day sessions with local career professionals in related fields. The event, called “STEMcon,” was held at the Tri-Cities Campus of Washington State University and included participants from two local high schools. The topic was “Radioactivity is Everywhere.”

STEM Like Me!

Last month, Susan Winslow and Dalene Zabel of our Richland, Washington, office volunteered as “STEM Like ME!” mentors at McLoughlin Middle School in Pasco. The goal of the event was to get the 7th and 8th grade students excited about local STEM careers, as well as the skills, education, and training needed to pursue them.

We were delighted to participate once again in STEMCon at Washington State University (WSU) Tri-Cities on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Two of Dade Moeller's certified health physicists, Mark Fishburn and Keith McCartney, volunteered to provide a 2.5-hour long workshop called "Radioactivity is Everywhere!" In attendance were 12 students from Chiawana High School (Pasco) and Delta High School (Richland).

Way to Go, Desert Brains!

In the fall of 2012, Dade Moeller made a modest donation -- $250 -- to a team of third-, fourth- and fifth-grade students at Lewis and Clark Elementary School in Richland to help them participate in the FIRST LEGO League program -- an international robotics program designed to get children excited about science and technology.
