Last month, Susan Winslow and Dalene Zabel of our Richland, Washington, office volunteered as “STEM Like ME!” mentors at McLoughlin Middle School in Pasco. The goal of the event was to get the 7th and 8th grade students excited about local STEM careers, as well as the skills, education, and training needed to pursue them.

We had the great opportunity to visit with the students at their presentations, asking questions and providing feedback and support. It was such an inspiring day!

A "Win-Win" Solution

Furniture

We recently consolidated some office space within our building in Richland, Washington, and had some excess furniture as a result. Desks, cabinets, credenzas, and rolling chairs – and even some tables and kitchenware – no longer had a home. Instead of calling up a moving or disposal service, we came up with a creative solution.

What a lovely way to start the day -- at the annual Friends of Scouting Leadership Breakfast along with our CEO Matt Moeller, who was recognized by the Blue Mountain Council as this year's North Star Honoree. How Loud Can a K-3rd Grade Lunchroom Get? Tony Etherington Volunteered to Find Out.

Every year, the Kiona-Benton schools in Washington State conduct a survey of noise levels at various locations around their facilities. For years, this survey has been conducted by the custodial staff using a phone “app.” This year, a noise level of 89dB (decibels) was determined in the elementary school’s cafeteria.

CFO Glenn Caprio Elected Treasurer of Local United Way

We are happy to announce that our Chief Financial Officer, Glenn S. Caprio, has been elected to a 1-year term as Treasurer of the United Way of Benton and Franklin Counties. Glenn currently is a member of the chapter’s Board of Directors, a position he has held since January 2012. His new role as Treasurer will begin with the first meeting of the Executive Committee, in January 2015.
