Determining Program Conditions Across the DOE Complex

In order to meet its January 11, 2016, commitment to the Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB) for determining the condition of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) emergency management programs, all DOE Field Offices were directed to provide information on the status of open emergency management program findings and deficiencies. PADEP's Draft Final TENORM Rule: Chapter 78

To date, companies operating in the Marcellus and Utica Shale plays in Pennsylvania have been subject to limited regulations specifically in place to address the presence of TENORM [technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material] in gas operations.

However, due to the recently released draft final rule known as Chapter 78 by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (PADEP), that may be about to change. While development of this new rule has been in the works for several years, PADEP incorporated one potentially significant addition to the rule compared to previous versions.
